Hi everyone,

We’d like to give a big thanks to Daniel for running two activities in a row, they were both informative and fun.

Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)

This week Georgette, Frances and Michelle will be making pancakes for Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) which is celebrated on the 28th February this year. If you wish to participate in the activity, please bring along your own pancake batter, toppings, plates, and forks. We will cook them together in the hall. If anyone has a spare electric fry pan they can bring, that would be a great help. There will be a pan specifically for those with allergies. So no need to bring morning tea, I think the pancakes will be enough.

Looking forward to seeing you there,

Christina.

Final activity for 2016, Friday 9th December – Las Posadas!

December 6, 2016 § Leave a comment

Hi everyone.

This year has been very busy, our group has grown and our children have all shown much talent, enthusiasm and discipline in their approach to their homeschool work. Christmas and the end of the school year is almost upon us already!  The concert was a revelation and we very much thank Tanya for being such an expert and gracious MC, as well as all the performers for helping to make the day a big success.

For our final activity day for 2016, Therese will help us to keep up our traditional Mexican Advent celebration, “Las Posadas”.  If you recall from previous years we’ll start by singing a traditional carol (translated), followed by praying the rosary together, then feasting!

Las Posadas: Let us join the angels, the shepherds, the inn-keepers, wise men and saints, to invite the Holy Family into our homes and hearts this Christmas.

It’s all to help us invite the Holy Family into our homes and hearts, so can everyone please along your Rosary beads and a plate to share.

Finally, thank you to each of you, for helping to make each activity day a time  where we can all relax & enjoy the company of like-minded mothers, where our children can enjoy informal activities, build lasting friendships and be introduced to new ideas and new opportunities to grow in holiness, wisdom and knowledge.  It has been a year of great blessings.

I hope you can make it to our final activity day, and I hope that Christmas brings you and yours great joy.

I have heard that a few of the children have already been preparing short dramatic / musical performances. There will be a keyboard set up if anyone needs it. The aim is to give each child an opportunity to experience speaking or performing in public, in a safe, friendly environment. Should be fun!

God bless, Christina

Hi everyone.

I hope your Easter was joyful, abundant and prayerful.

For our last activity of Term I we focused on two noble traditions, to great effect: Our Stations of the Cross were quite moving I thought and the St Brigid’s Crosses were beautiful, so well done everybody!

Next Friday, that’s Friday 2nd May, please BYO game. You’ll probably have to teach others how to play your game and we look forward to learning more about you by the way you share what excites you with others!

Morning Melodies!

For our activity day on Friday 16th May, we are planning to have a concert. All children who sing or play an instrument are invited to perform, whether solo or in small ensembles/groups/families. Parents are welcome to perform with their children. It will be a relaxed musical gathering and an opportunity for those performing to get their music out of the practice room to air and share with friends. Because music isn’t made just to be practised ☺

Performers may also like to briefly share a bit of information with the audience about their piece(s) and/or instrument, such as: Who composed your piece? What are they famous for? When and where did they live? What style of music did they compose? Does your piece tell a story, and if so, what about? What family of instruments does your instrument belong to? What is your instrument made of? How is the sound produced on your instrument?

To help keep track of time and ensure we have all the necessary equipment on hand, could performers/parents of please shoot Sam a quick email (samanthagforster@gmail.com) to indicate that they would like to perform and give a rough estimate of how long their piece(s) would go for. A keyboard and a music stand will be available on the day.

Drama activity day, Friday 7th March – Bible stories!

March 5, 2014 § Leave a comment

Hi everyone.

The Show ‘n’ Tell day was really lovely. It’s always good to see the kids talking in front of an appreciative audience and the diversity in our group made for some fascinating presentations and demonstrations of skill.  We’ll definitely make space for more of these days in the future!

This week Therese is organising some drama activities.  They don’t know it yet but our children will be organizing and performing short plays based on stories from The Holy Bible.  Biblical costumes and props are most welcome.

This is something that can involve kids of all ages, requiring co-operation, good humour and more than a little dramatic flair.  It will be a lot of fun so I hope you can make it.

Final activity for 2013, Friday 13th December – Las Posadas!

December 6, 2013 § Leave a comment

Hi everyone.

This year has been so eventful and busy yet it has gone by so quickly! Fr Corrigan was a wonderful, supportive and encouraging guest at our most recent activity day and we very much thank Michelle for helping to arrange the visit of this holy young priest.

For our final activity day for 2013, Therese will introduce us to a traditional Mexican Advent celebration, “Las Posadas”.  I’m told we’ll start by singing a traditional carol (translated), followed by praying the rosary together, then feasting – Mexican style!
